Madeleine McCann’s parents mark 15 years since her disappearance
Madeleine McCann’s parents shared a poignant quote this morning to mark 15 years since their three-year-old daughter disappeared.
Kate and Gerry McCann shared a quote and illustration from Winnie the Pooh to share their thoughts on their daughter’s case after she disappeared from their family holiday in Portugal in 2007.
The caption, to a drawing of Pooh and his friend Piglet, posted on the Find Madeleine website reads: “But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart, I’ll always be with you.”
Kate and Gerry McCann also wrote: “Regardless of the outcome, Madeleine will always be our daughter and a truly horrific crime has been committed. These things will remain.
“It is true though that uncertainty creates weakness; knowledge and certainty give strength, and for this reason our need for answers, for the truth, is essential.”
They added: “We are grateful for the ongoing work and commitment of the UK, Portuguese, and German authorities as it is this combined police effort which will yield results and bring us those answers.”
Last month Portuguese investigators named an official suspect, Christian B of Germany, in the search for the toddler.
However, under Portuguese law, after 15 years it is no longer possible to name someone as a person of interest.
Christian is currently serving a prison sentence for drug offences in Germany and was also given a seven-year term for raping a 72-year-old woman.
The 45-year-old has not been charged and strongly denies any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police said it remained “committed to doing what we can to find answers”.
Madeleine’s disappearance shocked the UK to its core as a widespread search was launched in Portugal.
Many documentaries and series have been made about the three-year-olds mysterious disappearance but no formal conclusion has ever been made.
