Wanted man faces multiple charges after dramatic rooftop standoff

A man faced a charge of arson and 14 other offences following a rooftop standoff with police on Lincoln Boulevard, Grimsby Magistrate Court heard today.

Ryan Tomney, 26, of Normandy Road Cleethorpes, declined to appear in the dock in the court room.

He has a total of 15 charges, including two of robbery, alleged to have been committed on April 6 and April 27.

Further charges related to offences of carrying a bladed article, also on April 6 and April 27.

Four other charges including arson and affray, threats to kill and assault causing actual bodily harm are alleged at Lincoln Boulevard related to the incident between April 27 and April 30.

A criminal damage charge, alleged on April 20, was also laid against the defendant.

Ryan Tomney was recalled to prison following his arrest at Lincoln Boulevard, Grimsby following breach of conditions for a previous offence of arson.

The robbery charges and the criminal damage were indicted to crown court on May 30.

A hearing will take place at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court on May 10 when the defendant is due to appear via video link from prison when the charges will be heard.

In the early hours of the morning, a man climbed onto a rooftop down Lincoln Boulevard when he began throwing tiles off the roof.

Police were called to the scene where a car was badly smashed.

For safety, members of the public in nearby houses were evacuated overnight.

Ryan Tomney, 26, was arrested on suspicion of several serious offences in connection with the incident.

Humberside Police confirmed the news, stating: “A 26-year-old man is in our custody following an incident yesterday evening (Thursday 28 April) on Lincoln Boulevard, Grimsby.

“Officers were carrying out enquiries when a man took to the roof of a property. A cordon was put in place for the safety of everyone in the area whilst emergency services brought the incident to a safe conclusion.”
