Candidate hoping to become youngest councillor victim of vandalism
The youngest ever candidate hoping to become councillor for the Scartho ward has now become a victim of vandalism.
Robson Augusta, who is standing as the Labour candidate for Scartho, came home to find that a brick had been thrown through the window of his car in an act of mindless vandalism.
The car was parked on the driveway of his parent’s house where he lives, but the two other cars on the driveway were left untouched.
The 19-year-old candidate received a call from his mother alerting him of the news, stating that neither his dad’s work car nor the campervan was damaged in the attack.
Robson uses the car to practice his driving ready for him to become a fully-fledged driver.
His mother has also been impacted, as she used the car to travel herself to work.
When asked if this could have been a targeted attack, Robson said: “Look anything is possible but I think it is highly unlikely to be however we have seen politics become more emotive and reactionary in the last few years but I still hold out that this more than likely is a freak incident that just happened to happen to some running in elections.”
He added that more needs to be done to combat anti-social behaviour in the area, such as youth zones to keep youths off the streets and out of trouble.
He said: “The best way to combat this sort of behaviour especially if it involves young people is setting up more youth groups and youth zones and councils working in partnership with charities.
“We also need to build a better sense of community again and better community feeling with one’s neighbors will also help mitigate this behaviour.”
The vandals are believed to have thrown the brick sometime lat Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
An investigation has been launched following the violent act, and police have asked for anyone with CCTV footage of the Southfield Road area to get in contact.
