Dog restrictions come into force in Cleethorpes
Restrictions which limit where and when people can bring their dogs to Cleethorpes beach come into force today.
From today, Friday the 15th of April, dogs are not permitted on the main beach between Wonderland and Cleethorpes Leisure Centre.
The annual restrictions will last until the 30th of September.
Wardens are expected to be on patrol issuing fines to those who ignore the rules.
Dog walkers will be fined £100 if they take their dogs on the restricted section of beach between those dates.
Last year North East Lincolnshire Council fined 458 people taking their dogs on the beach.
Explaining the ban, a statement issued by the council reads: “The Blue Flag Criteria states that ‘During the bathing season dogs must be excluded from the award area’.
“Cleethorpes relies heavily on tourism and Blue Flag status is the bench mark that makes it stand out and attract visitors.
“Around the country, all beaches with a Blue Flag Status have the same stipulation.
“By restricting the dogs to designated areas of the beach during the summer season allows everyone to enjoy the beach.”
Despite the beach restrictions, dogs are still welcome at a number of other locations including many pubs and cafes across the resort.
