Dayla the swan to make a full recovery

Dayla the swan to make a full recovery

On Monday an injured swan was rescued from Cleethorpes Boating Lake after mistaking a fishing line, float, and hook for food.

Although the line was secured to prevent the float from entering the swan’s airway, it wasn’t possible for it to be removed on-site due to a hook being detected inside the swan.

This meant that expensive emergency surgery was needed to repair the damage.

Thanks to the vets at Abbey Veterinary Clinic the swan, now named Dayla by a 4-year-old customer, is making a full recovery.

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue originally asked for support to fund the expensive surgery, thankgully help from the public and Harrison’s Ices made sure that Dayla got the treatment and medication she needed.

The rescue team shared the fantastic news to Facebook: “An update about the swan who picked up fishing line, hook and float.

“After great work from the vets at Abbey Veterinary Centre the mute swan is now back with us recovering from the ordeal.

“Thankfully, the hook had not become embedded in the throat and was able to be removed from a big bunch of line without any major operation, the remaining line, which had also traveled down the oesophagus, was removed safely by our vets during the procedure.

“With the support from both the public and a generous £200 donation from Harrison’s Ices to cover the swans emergency treatment and medications, we managed to get the swan the best support possible. ❤️

“This Cygnet also has a new name, Dayla, named by 4 year old customer of Harrison Ices.

“Rescues like this cost a small fortune and if we didn’t have your support, it simply wouldn’t be possible!

“It really is as simple as that. Thank you, everyone!”
