Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue ask for support to help injured swan
Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue is currently asking for support to help an injured swan in need of medical assistance.
Two swans were yesterday rescued from Cleethorpes Boating Lake due to having fishing twine attached to them.
The second swan which was rescued is currently undergoing emergency treatment after mistaking the fishing equipment for food.
Although the line was secured to prevent the float from entering the swan’s airway, it wasn’t possible for it to removed on site due to a hook beging detected inside the swan.
The rescue team said: “This is the second bird collected from the boating lake today with fishing line or twine attached to it.
“This cygnet is currently undergoing emergency treatment at our vets in Grimsby after mistaking a fishing line, float, and hook for food!
“After a quick capture, the remaining line was secured to prevent the float from going down the throat and causing a blockage to the airway. Sadly it wasn’t possible to remove it on-site as our metal detector alerted us to the presence of a hook internally.
“She’s now at the second vet center of the night undergoing an emergency procedure and potential operation to remove the hook and remaining line as quickly and safely as possible.
“This will be a big vet bill (as you would expect if you took a dog or cat in a similar situation) so your support, as always, is hugely appreciated.
“Thank you all in advance!”
