Privacy barriers installed at Suggitt’s Lane Bridge
A 1.8-metre high screen has been installed at the new Suggitt’s Lane Bridge following complaints from residents who were concerned that it overlooks their properties.
Most residents have welcomed the construction of the bridge and the improved access to the seafront that it will provide.
But the project has not been without its issues.
A number of residents have complained that months of overnight works have disrupted their sleep, along with causing people’s homes to rattle and vibrate.
Others have complained that the bridge overlooks their properties, impacting both privacy levels and house prices in the area.
A protective barrier has now been introduced as a solution to privacy concerns.
Speaking a few months ago, Councillor Stewart Swinburn, Cabinet member for highways and transport at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “Things are obviously moving on quickly now with the bridge build, and like many others, I’ll be pleased to see it in place to reconnect our community in that area with the seafront – something that’s been missing for a while now.”
The bridge is intended as a replacement for the level crossing, which was closed to the public in April 2019.
Residents have since had to use the Fuller Street Bridge, which has 77 steps and no disabled access, to cross over to the sea front.
Suggitt’s Lane Bridge is scheduled to open this month following a number of delays.
Updates to follow.
