Sir Keir Starmer receives death threats after Jimmy Savile comments
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has confirmed receiving a number death threats after the PM accused him of ‘failing to prosecute Jimmy Savile’
The prime minster has not yet withdrawn his claim but has since clarified the statement did not suggest Starmer was ‘personally involved’ in the decision not to prosecute Savile.
According to reports, the Metropolitan Police are currently investigating online deaths threats aimed at Starmer.
It has been suggested that documents and evidence have already been passed onto Scotland Yard by the Centre for Countering Digital Hate.
According to BBC News, Starmer strongly believes the death threats he received are a direct result of the prime minister’s comment.
He added: “It’s very important for me to say that what the prime minister said was wrong
He knew exactly what he was doing”
This follows an incident last week where Sir Keir Starmer and MP David Lammy were targeted by crowds shouting abuse and chanting the words ‘traitor’ as they travelled with a police escort.
A video has since emerged showing the incident taking place.
No surprise the conspiracy theorist thugs who harassed @Keir_Starmer & I repeated slurs we heard from @BorisJohnson last week at the despatch box.
Intimidation, harassment and lies have no place in our democracy. And they won’t ever stop me doing my job. pic.twitter.com/Io4JBJoHfQ

Shadow Foreign Secretary and MP for Tottenham David Lammy shared the video via Twitter with the caption: “No surprise the conspiracy theorist thugs who harassed Keir Starmer & I repeated slurs we heard from Boris Johnson last week at the despatch box.
“Intimidation, harassment and lies have no place in our democracy. And they won’t ever stop me doing my job.”
Responding to the incident, Rosena Allin-Khan, Labour’s Shadow Mental Health minister, said “words have consequences” and called on the prime minister to apologise.
Sir Keir himself described the comments as “a ridiculous slur, peddled by right-wing trolls”.
In a tweet, Johnson condemned the harassment as “absolutely disgraceful” and ” completely unacceptable”, but despite calls to, he has not apologised for any part he might have played in events.
