Mother’s horror as daughter rushed to hospital after having drink spiked in Cleethorpes
A mother has spoken out and says “something needs to be done” after her daughter had her drink spiked at the Beach nightclub in Cleethorpes on Saturday night, leaving her unresponsive and without a pulse.
Beckie Robertson told Gi Media: “My daughter Mia went to a Halloween party on Saturday night. I wasn’t aware she was going out afterwards, but she wasn’t home so I tried calling her but her phone was off.
“I got in touch with some friends who she was out with and they told me that Mia was unresponsive outside the Beach bar. She’d been spiked and an ambulance was on the way.”
Beckie said herself and her partner went to the nightclub, where they found Mia in the back of an ambulance with a breathing mask on and “not moving”.
She said: “Mia’s friend told me that she was absolutely fine one minute, they were dancing, and then he noticed she started to go a little bit wobbly so he grabbed her by her waist and then Mia collapsed and her eyes rolled into the back of her head.
“He put her over his shoulder, got her outside, and him and his friend both couldn’t find a pulse, so they rang an ambulance and then the doorman came out and assisted them.”
This was one of many spikings to have taken place in Cleethorpes on Saturday night – Beckie said the ambulance crew told her they had attended to six people that night who had also been spiked.
“Mia is OK now but she’s just got bruising on her chest, but that’s nothing compared to her losing her life,” Beckie continued.
“It’s something you never ever want to see or experience as a parent. We’ll probably never find out who did it but I’m just thankful she’s OK.
“But something needs doing because what are they going to do, wait until someone does die before they bring something into place to protect ourselves when we go out? It shouldn’t have to be like that. It’s getting really really bad.”
Teagan Steele, 27, was also the victim of drinks spiking at the Beach nightclub in Cleethorpes on Saturday night.
She said: “I was in the Beach nightclub from 2am and the last I remember it was 3am that morning, and 6am swiftly arrived. I didn’t know what entirely happened until the next day when I woke up with abrasions on the top of my mouth and dilated pupils.
“I kept blacking out, missing segments of the night. Even today I have extreme heart palpitations, intermittent fever, and I cannot eat, sleep or drink properly.”
Humberside Police have been contacted for comment.
