Most people in Humberside were “safe and responsible” on Freedom Weekend, says police

In the first weekend since the Covid-19 restrictions were eased on Monday 19 July, Humberside Police have issued a positive statement to praise the people of Humberside.

As people ventured out to spend time out socialising with friends and family on Freedom Weekend, officers have confirmed that the majority of people behaved in a “safe and responsible” way.

Detective Chief Superintendent Phill Ward said: “This weekend saw our night time economy return, with bars, clubs and other social spaces opening fully for people to enjoy themselves after a testing year and a half.

“I am pleased to report that the majority of members of the public enjoyed the lifting of restrictions and the facilities within our region in a safe and responsible way.

“We had additional officers out and about patrolling key areas throughout the weekend, whilst talking to members of the public along the way.

“As we enter into the transitional period, our additional staff, officers and resources will remain on hand to accommodate the likely increase in demand for service.

“As always, we are asking for people to act and drink responsibly and to remain vigilant.

“We are here when you need us.”
