hero who got on his bike in Cleethorpes and raised more than £1,000 for hospitals has now been honoured with a special award.
William Parker, who has spent the year helping those not able to get out to buy essentials during lockdown, has been crowned winner of the Young Volunteer Award at the HEY Smile Foundation volunteer awards.
William decided to get on his bike – which he adapted to pull a trailer – and deliver food and essential items to support his community in Cleethorpes.
At the same time, he also raised funds for the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust’s hospital charity – the Health Tree Foundation.
William said: “I realised there were a lot of elderly people in our area that would be struggling to get about. I put a leaflet through their doors saying I could get essential items or for them to let me know if they needed anything specific.”
Speaking about winning the HEY award, William said: “I was shocked to begin with but also really happy. I was not expecting to win.”
