DWP Digital in Newcastle have two Senior Solution Architect vacancies, to support the architecture design for modern digital solutions in the Retirement, Bereavement and Carers (RBC) and Child Maintenance Group (CMG). These solutions support millions of customers.
RBC is responsible for services that include the provision of pensions, benefits and retirement information for current and future pensioners in the UK and abroad. This includes State Pension, Pension Credit, Winter Fuel Payment, Cold Weather Payment and the Bereavement Service.
CMG is responsible for obtaining maintenance from Absent Parents or Non-Resident Parents, and paying it to the Parent with Care if they are not in receipt of benefit.
Both RBC and CMG, in line with DWP strategy, want to orient their services around Events, supported by a micro-services architecture. Events and micro-services will be the foundations that will enable DWP to manage change quickly, and at low risk, resulting in dependable high-quality services for our customers.
The RBC role is ideally suited to a solution architect with experience of developing solutions for deployment into public cloud environments.
The CMG role is ideally suited to a solution architect that will lead on the design of hosting, environments, networking and public cloud infrastructure of their Digital Common Platforms. This team is laying the foundations for these platforms and their reusable capabilities.
As a Solution Architect, you will:
- Provide architecture advice to product delivery teams, blending technical (software, public cloud development and architecture) and behavioural (leadership and communication) skills.
- Work with other architects within RBC or CMG, to ensure solutions are consistent, strategically matched and interoperable.
- Ensure solutions meet the Departmental Architecture standards, re-using patterns where possible, and represent solutions to the Digital Design Authority (DDA) at various stages of the product development.
- Advocate and support delivery of solutions that reduce architecture complexity and reduce technical debt
- Lead, deliver and support the architecture design elements of RBC or CMG initiatives.
- Create solution designs that meet user needs, working closely with engineers, in agile delivery teams.
- Be accountable for the product architecture, contributing to product roadmaps and represent product designs at governance forums, providing clear communication of architecture design and decision making, in order to gain approval to proceed with designs.
- Identity, capture, iterate, and implement architecture patterns.
- Engage with Domain and Lead Solution Architects, and engineering teams, to implement solutions according to agreed and approved designs.
- Contribute to the DWP Architecture community.
You’ll have:
- Experience in Architecture design and modelling techniques, patterns, tools and standards.
- Experience with Public cloud technologies, cloud hosting, container, and networking design patterns, tools and best practice (eg Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
- Agile/DevOps delivery methodologies and best practices.
- Experience Presenting to technical governance forums.
Desirable criteria:
- Micro-service and API-led architecture design
- Event-based architecture design, patterns (including pub-sub and data streaming), modelling techniques, tools and standards.
