Covid-19 sees more pupils sent home from North East Lincolnshire schools

Parents given advice after Covid case at Cleethorpes infant school

Covid-19 sees more pupils sent home from North East Lincolnshire schools

A bubble of children at a Cleethorpes school have been told to stay at home after a second confirmed case of Covid-19.

This comes after parents were last week advised of a confirmed case of coronavirus linked to Signhills Infant Academy, as previously reported.

This person however had not been in the school, on Hardys Road, during the days leading up to symptoms developing and no pupils or staff were advised to self-isolate as a result of the case.

However the situation has now changed after a pupil and a staff member have both tested positive.

The headteacher of the adjacent Signhills Academy junior school, Steve Carr, said in a message to families: “I have been advised that there has been a second confirmed case of Covid-19 amongst the Signhills Infant Academy community.

“I understand that you may find this concerning, but they are following advice from the Department for Education and Public Health England in order to ensure that they respond appropriately.

“The parents of any children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case have received an individual letter from the infant academy and will be staying at home for 14 days.”

Headteacher Allie Majer said that following Public Health England advice, a bubble of 28 pupils and staff had begun isolation.

In Grimsby Phoenix Park Academy, a split site school, has been affected at its bases in Harold Street (Phoenix House) and at the Park House building adjacent to Park Avenue.

As previously reported, the Park House site was shut until today (October 5) following the positive test and students were taking part in virtual learning.

The latest statement from Phil Hutchinson, Executive Principal, said: “Since closing our Park House site, a further three members of staff have tested positive for Covid-19, taking the total number affected to five. As Park House pupils and staff are already isolating at home for 14 days, no further action has been required and school is scheduled to reopen as planned on Monday 5th October.

“Two members of staff at our Phoenix House site have also tested positive and are isolating at home. A teaching bubble comprising three pupils is also self-isolating due to contact with those staff members.

“We are working closely with Public Health England and following all guidance to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our school community at this challenging time. Any pupils or staff who experience symptoms should follow the government guidelines and get tested.

“We wish those staff members affected a speedy recovery and are grateful for the continued support of our parents, carers and wider community as we manage this changing, complex situation. We look forward to welcoming pupils back to school next week.”

Other schools in the area where groups of pupils have been forced to self-isolate include Middlethorpe Primary Academy and Bursar Primary Academy, both in Cleethorpes.
