Cleethorpes teacher tests positive for Covid-19
A member of staff at another local school has tested positive for Covid-19, following a confirmed case at Stallingborough C of E Primary School earlier this week.
Parents of pupils at Cleethorpes Academy received a letter this morning confirming the situation.
It is the third school in Northern Lincolnshire to be affected by the virus since reopening last week.
The letter states that the teacher is now in isolation, but the school remains open to all pupils and staff unless they feel unwell.
According to the school, this is because strict social distancing measures were already in place at the site.
A Tollbar Multi-Academy Trust spokesperson said:
“A staff member at Cleethorpes Academy has tested positive for Covid-19 and is now in self-isolation.
“The Academy has informed Public Health England and the Local Authority and has been advised that the risk to others is minimal as the member of staff was practising more than two-metres social distancing at all times, which is over and above the Government guidelines.
“The site has been thoroughly deep-cleaned with enhanced cleaning of all areas, in line with national guidance, which was already in place prior to this. There is not believed to be any risk to students or members of staff.”
Principal Janice Hornby added:
“We want to reassure parents that the situation is under control and we have followed advice from Public Health England in responding to this matter.
“The member of staff did not come into close contact with any students or other members of staff and we have been advised by Public Health England that no further action is required at this time.
“I would also like to stress the stringent Covid-19 measures we have in place at Cleethorpes Academy, which include staggered start and finish times, staggered break and lunchtimes, two-metre exclusion zones between staff and students in classrooms, all windows and doors open to maintain air flow, and instructions to staff regarding two-metre social distancing at all times between staff and students, mean that no further action is required at this time.”
