Local residents have expressed anger, frustration and disgust as the toilets at a park in Doncaster have been shut during lockdown.

This has resulted in visitors urinating and defecating in public.

This problem has increased as more people visit the location following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Littering, dog mess and incidents of dogs harming other wildlife are also reported to have increased.

Sandra Crabtree, chairman of park volunteer group the Friends of Sandall Park said:

“The park is back to being packed now and people are using the park as a toilet.

“It’s disgusting.

“We keep getting enquiries about the toilets and when will they open.

“This is not our decision, Doncaster Council’s. We know there’s a problem with people spending more and more time outdoors and the need for toilets but we don’t have the answer.”

Despite people being permitted to visit for unlimited outdoor exercise, and to meet people from other households, the Council have still not reopened the toilets.

Doncaster Council workers have reportedly removed human faeces from the park because the park’s toilet block remains closed.

Ms Crabtree added:

“One of the anglers has had to clear up the mess left behind when a dog attacked and killed a gosling.

“This is just not on. Not nice for children to witness; not nice for the geese parents to witness and definitely not nice for the gosling that was attacked and killed.

“Keep dogs on leads near the lakes and near any wildfowl.”
