Fieldhouse Road resurfacing delayed
In February, we reported that following years of complaints from residents, North East Lincolnshire Council were finally set to repair damage on Fieldhouse Road, Humberston. Now, North East Lincolnshire Council say that the resurfacing of Fieldhouse Road is to be delayed again due to “a lack of materials.”
Frequently referred to as the ‘Patchwork Road’, Fieldhouse Road has been dubbed the “most dangerous road in the borough” by Councillor John Fenty.
It is alleged that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the supply chain.
They claim that the works, which were scheduled to begin yesterday, will now begin on Monday the 4th of May, lasting four days.
Full daytime road closures will be in place between 8am and 6pm and parking will be temporarily suspended. Footway access will be maintained.
Many residents have said that the condition of the road was dangerous, and was causing disruption to road users and pedestrians.
One claimed the damage from the road had begun to affect the condition of her home.
Following initial delays from the original repairs which were expected in 2018, Fieldhouse Road was not due to be repaired until 2022. However, following the rapid influx in complaints and a petition signed by over 500 angry local residents, works will commence on Monday the 2nd of March.
Councillor Fenty has said the fact that Fieldhouse ‘Patchwork’ road is finally to be resurfaced is a reflection of the resident’s anger, and that their efforts were a result of their genuine concerns and anxieties.
The petition stated the road “is dangerous because cars are thrown off course as they navigate the narrow space that often occurs when cars are parked on either side of the road.”
Improvements will include the replacement of damaged drain covers and kerbs, and carriageway resurfacing.
