A COMPANY boss is transforming into Tigger to lead a major fun-d raising bounce for St Andrew’s Hospice – helping to raise money in its 40th anniversary year.
To celebrate the ruby birthday of St Andrew’s, Chris Tonge is reaching for the stars – well, looking to bounce his way a bit nearer to them anyway! He is organising The Ultimate Bounce-athon and he wants other organisations to jump on board.
Chris, owner/director of the Ultimate Group that includes Ultimate Packaging, Ultimate Digital and Sharp Iris, is preparing a week of ‘bouncing’ at the company’s offices on Europarc, which will jump-off on Monday, October 7. The date has been chosen to mark national Hospice Care Week, which runs until Friday, October 13 and is a week of celebration and action to help raise hospices’ profiles and changes people’s perceptions.
Everyone is invited to join in the fun. But what people must do is donate for every bounce they make while supporting Chris, who during the week will be completing his own 24-hour sponsored Bungee Bounce in his Tigger outfit, in three stages of eight-hours each.
On the Monday until the Friday the Ultimate Digital Centre will be transformed into a mini bounce assault course, with neighbouring businesses, groups, local people and Hospice friends invited along to complete some or all of the fun course. Everyone taking part will be asked to donate £6, with all funds going to the Hospice. Companies are encouraged to give their employees bouncing breaks during the day to visit the Bounce-athon course – they may even want to organise sponsorship.
Alternatively, organisations can carry out their own bounce-athons during the week – and some are already getting the bouncing bug:
- Tuesday October 8, VANEL (Voluntary Action North East Lincolnshire) is hopping on board with a day-long ‘ultimate space hop’ by members of the Uniformed Services, followed by a basketball bounce by the Snaprats Basketball Club;
- Wednesday October 9, 9.30am until 5.30pm: Grimsby’s Oasis Gym will host 40-minute exercise ball bounce sessions;
- Thursday October 10, 11am until 7.30pm: Walkers Total Fitness, on Cleethorpes’ North Prom will be doing 40-minute sponsored skip-athon sessions.

“It’s going to be great fun, a great challenge and we hope to see the Hospice funds jump up as a result of all the support we hope we will get. Of course, fancy dress for everyone would be great too,” said Chris ‘Tigger’ Tonge as he will be known for the week.
As part of its commitment to the Hospice, the Ultimate Group has pledged to undertake 40 fund-raising challenges during St Andrew’s’ birthday year, and has already set up a ‘Heart My Hospice’ appeals page on its website: https://heartmyhospice.everydayhero.com/uk/the-ultimate-challenge
As plans are put into place, any ideas and further support is welcome. If you have any ‘bouncy’ equipment to help, if you are an individual or organisation that would like to take part in Ultimate’s Monday to Friday event, or are a firm, school, or group that wishes to do their own event, please get in touch with Becky Darnell at the Hospice: email becky.darnell@nhs.net.
