Good news for those of you who can not get through the day without 40 winks.
A study has now suggested that taking a daytime nap even if only for a few minutes could dramatically cut the risk of a heart attack or stroke. Those people who tend to grab 40 winks even only once or twice a week are around half as likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke as those who never nap 3,462 people who were aged between 35-75 at the start were followed for an average of five years. 58 percent did not nap, 19 percent had taken one to two naps during the previous week, and 12 percent had taken three to five and 11 percent six or seven.
They found that napping once or twice a week was linked with a 48 percent reduced risk of a cardiovascular event such as heart attack and stroke, this was the same even when other factors were taken into account. Thr research was published in the BMJ journal Heart.
But a senior cardiac nurse for The British Heart Foundation says that more evidence is needed before they say if regular napping can help to reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke.
