By Authorities investigating the death of an 12 year old boy from the Hull area at a French campsite a week ago today, have drained the beachside swimming lagoon where he drowned.
The French Gendarmerie (police) in Vic-sur-Ainse have also cordoned off the entire beach at the La Croix du Vieux Pont campsite. A notice of closure placed at the beach by the campsite owners, European Camping Group reads: “We are concerned for your security, the lagoon is closed for precautionary principle. The date of return to the service is not decided yet. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding”.
Police confirmed that their inquiry into the boy’s death was still ongoing.
Tour operator Venue Holidays said: “Our hearts go out to the family concerned at this awful time”. The firm is also offering assistance to the family to “ascertain what has happened….We will help the family in whatever way is possible and would request that their privacy is respected at this difficult time”.
Site owner, the European Camping Group, said it was “deeply touched” and shocked by the tragedy, and was offering psychological support and collaborating with investigating authorities.
The Foreign Office reported last week that it was “supporting the family of a British child who has died in France, and are in contact with the French authorities”.
