The elderly can learn to beat brain game players in their 20s.

In a study using a brain training game that requires multi-tasking pensioners aged 71 to 80 were able to do better than those in their 20s. Thee was to keep practicing. Because the elderly may struggle to multi-task because of their older brains processing information more slowly.

But after the 36 pensioners who took part had 1,000 practice sessions in the game featuring cartoon leaves moving on a screen they could outperform the much younger unpractised people. They could even beat the people who had practiced 15 times.

The first author of the study Steyvers said “The brain is not a muscle but like our bodies, if we work out and train it we can improve our mental performance.
