The milkman is making a return.
The traditional service of the milkman which vanished with the rise of supermarkets is making a comeback. Because of the backlash against throwaway plastic. Milk & More the largest doorstep delivery service has now got more than 500,000 customers and it has signed more than 75,000 up in the last year alone. Up to 90 percent of them are having their milk delivered in glass bottles that are returned and are typically cleaned and reused 25 times. The traditional service has been reinvented for today’s customers the firm’s milkmen offer more than 200 essentials including bread, eggs, and cereal.
It has also boosted the demand for battery-powered milk floats. Milkmen making daily rounds first appeared in the 1860s as the railways allowed milk to be carried freshly and cheaply from farms into towns and cities.
