Michael Buerk says allowing death due to obesity could be a benefit to society.
Michael Buerk has caused controversy by saying that obesity should not be classed as a disease because it encourages people to seek treatment on the NHS.
He suggested in the Radio Times that allowing death due to obesity could be a benefit for society. He said the obese will die earlier than the rest of us your fat because you eat too much. You could see it as a selfless sacrifice in the fight against demographic imbalance, climate change, and overpopulation.
He queried the claim that overweight and obesity-related illness costs the NHS £6.1 billion a year. He believes that no one can calculate how much an obese person would have cost if they were slim.
Michael Buerk remarked, by all means, nudge all you like but leave couch potatoes alone because they are weak and not ill.
Do you find his remarks offensive or has he got a point?
