111 will send you to a chemist and not your GP if you are sick.

To avoid you having to see your GP patients who have minor ailments such as coughs, colds, sore throats and earaches are going to be offered same-day appointments with pharmacists. In order to avoid them seeing a GP.

For anyone calling 111 with an ailment that is apparently minor, they will be offered an appointment with their nearest chemist. It has been estimated that 20 million GP appointments could be dealt with safely by pharmacists. The measures will come into effect in October.

But there are concerns that 111 operators may not recognise if a symptom indicates a minor ailment or something that is more serious. The Department of Health is to make sure that every pharmacist will be properly trained in spotting sepsis.
