Experts say we would all be a lot better off in the UK if we all worked a four day week. The plan has been put forward by the New Economics Foundation. it is part of a radical plan which will solve the UK’s productivity crisis which is ongoing.
Households who are the poorest could see 13% higher in income by 2030. And this would be with a 4 day week and a higher minimum wage.
The research shows by moving to a 4 day week by 2030 Also lifting the national wage to £19 an hour. It would lead to a 13% rise for the poorest 50% of households. So the poorest families income would rise by 26%,and incomes for the richest would be 8% lower.
At the minute we work the longest hours in Europe, but we are less productive. In Germany and France they produce in four days what we produce in five.
