Walking footballers of Grimsby Corinthians
A busy week for the walking footballers of Grimsby Corinthians firstly saw some of their members joining forces with players from Wolds Wanderers, Scunthorpe and Grimsby Ancient Mariners as they represented North Lincolnshire in the inaugural LinxWF Community Charity Shield.
The event played at the Bradley Football Centre saw players from all over Lincolnshire and also the East Riding of Yorkshire battle it out for the Shield.
The event was also aiming to raise funds for Dementia UK. Games were played in a fantastic sporting spirit and at the conclusion it was the South Lincs players who won the day and collected the shield from Grimsby Corinthians Chairman Alan Reed. The biggest winner though has been Dementia UK with so far over £510 being raised in donations.
Before that competition commenced some of the Grimsby Corinthians met with their new shirt sponsor Andrew Rhodes representing local firm Inter Terminals who handed over the newly sponsored shirts. Corinthians thank Inter Terminals very much for their support.
And then Grimsby Corinthians travelled over to Leeds to play in the Semi Finals of the FA Peoples Cup. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and although Corinthians played well they found themselves up against younger and faster opposition and Corinthians weren’t successful in their quest to reach the finals. This competition has an over 50 age category and the youngest of the Corinthians players is 59 next month so it has been a tremendous effort to firstly win the regional qualifiers and then play so well against Wakefield (winners on the day) and Grangetown from the North East.
Grimsby Corinthians welcome new players at anytime to their sessions at the Bradley Football Centre on Tuesdays at 10:00.
