North East Lincolnshire Council and its regeneration partner, ENGIE, are getting ready for Walk to School Week.
The annual campaign, led by Living Streets, encourages pupils and grown-ups around the UK to unite for one week of walking to school – this year, running from 20 – 24 May.
The council and ENGIE are leading a campaign to encourage all primary schools in North East Lincolnshire to take part and are asking children and parents to ensure their school is getting involved.
Councillor Matthew Patrick, portfolio holder for highways and transport, said:
“Walk to School Week is a campaign we have proudly supported for a number of years in North East Lincolnshire.
“We want children to be as active as possible and for themselves and their parents to make walking to school their natural choice.
“For the many that do walk to school, school crossing patrols are the back bone of the school walk. They work tirelessly to ensure the safety of children crossing the road on their way to and from school, providing assistance to adults when required.
“This Walk to School Week, we would like to raise the profile of our area’s school crossing patrols and the work they do come rain or shine.”
