Police appeal for help to find witnesses to Railway Street rape.

 

Humberside Police have warned women not to walk home alone as the man who raped a woman in Railway street in the early hours of last Sunday morning is still at large.

They have launched a manhunt and want to speak to some people who may have seen him and not realised. Police are going to be out in Grimsby tonight to as they look for the rapist who brutally attacked a woman a week ago under the Railway Street bridge.

The police are to believe to have revealed that the victim who was walking home from work did not no her attacker. The man had followed her from Freeman Street along Wellington Street and into Railway street before the brutal attack.

Nearby resident heard screams.

A nearby resident was alerted to her screams as she was dragged under the bridge. They saw the man run off. Police say the man then ran from under the bridge down Railway Street and into Garibaldi Street towards Albion Street. It is thought he then walked down Oxford Street Grimsby.

There is CCTV footage from Tesco and other businesses which highlight a number of people they would like to trace. They would like to trace a man in his 60’s who was walking a dark coloured dog in Freeman Street. Also, a couple walking on Albion Street towards the Esso garage the suspect was running towards them and he stepped into the road to get passed them. The police need to hear from anyone who was in the Freeman Street, Railway Street or Garibaldi Street area between 12.20am and 1 am on Sunday.

The attacker is described as a white male, between 5ft 10in and 6ft 2in of slim build with dark brown close-cropped hair. He was wearing a dark coloured puffer style jacket and dark trousers or jeans and black trainers which may have white stripes on them, they may have been Adidas.

The victim who is in her 20’s is said to be deeply traumatised she was unaware she was being followed because she was on the phone to a friend.

Anyone with information or who can help trace witnesses including the man with the dog or the couple near the Esso Garage, who saw the suspect, can contact Humberside Police on 101 quoting log number 22 of March 10.
