Four men seen climbing up Humber Bridge

An emergency mission was launched after four men were seen climbing up and jumping off the Humber Bridge this morning.

Witnesses reported seeing the men ‘base jumping’ from the bridge at around 6.45am on Friday 6 November.

Base jumping is a recreational sport which involves jumping from fixed objects using a parachute.

Unfortunately for the four sports enthusiasts, they landed directly before the Cleethorpes and Hull Coastguard teams, who were accompanied by Humberside Police.

A spokesperson for Cleethorpes Coastguard said:

“CGOC Humber received a call from Humberside Police regarding four males climbing up the Humber Bridge.

“We were tasked to assist Hull Coastguard Rescue Team with the incident, but were stood down prior to leaving the station.

“To assist us with any type of search and rescue incident, whether it’s for a person or a suspicious object, you can assist us by having a location indicating app on your phone, something like What3Words.

“This will give us a good starting point for our search planning. Please log the location and pass it to the Coastguard operations centre when you speak to them.

“In a coastal emergency, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
