Broughton Club Pirates reach first-ever final following impressive semi-finals victory

History was made in the Scunthorpe Pool League on Tuesday night, as the team knock-out final will be contested by a side that has never reached this stage previously – marking a rare occurrence for the league.

Broughton Club Pirates reached the final for the first time after dispatching Showman’s Fu Cue 5-1 in their semi-final showdown.

They will be joined by persistent finalists Showman’s Army, who also progressed through their final four fixture by the same scoreline against Brumby Hall A. Both sides will meet in two weeks’ time after the final league round has been contested.

In the team knock-out plate, Schnapps Retro A became the lowest-ranked side to ever reach the semi-finals.

Currently ninth in Division Seven, Schnapps needed a deciding frame win from doubles pair Neall and Nash to secure a 5-4 victory against Foxhills Club – and the pair delivered.

Division Five runaway leaders Showman’s Young Ones will also contest in the semis, as they secured 5-2 away win at Division Four leaders Bottesford Town A.

Mulligans Majestic Sausage Dogs also secured their place in the next round following a 5-1 victory over Chancel Flyers, with Fairweather and Marais getting Las Dachshunds over the line in their doubles set.

Winterton Jubilee complete the semi-final lineup, as they also scored an impressive 5-1 win over Liberal Clue.

Next week, fixtures will revert back to the final league round of the campaign to decide the fates of several teams competing for promotion and league titles across all seven divisions.
