Tens of thousands receive treatment thanks to Grimsby’s multi-million pound MRI Unit

Over the past year, tens of thousands of patients have received treatment thanks to the multi-million pound MRI Unit at Grimsby Hospital.

The new unit was opened a year ago by Strictly Come Dancing legend Joanne Clifton and all the staff at the hospital.

The £8 million state-of-the-art unit has doubled the hospital’s scanning capacity, meaning clinicians can provide care quicker and more effectively.

In the last 12 months, 21,667 patients have been screened in the new unit, roughly 59 people per day.

This expert equipment has helped many patients and loved ones receive the care they need and catch illnesses early.

Yvonne McManus, the Deputy Manager for CT and MRI at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, said: “When the new unit was completed, we put up feedback boards in the changing areas, where patients can let us know about their experience.

“It’s always so heart-warming to see all the positive comments that have been written on them and to know what a difference our team makes to putting patients at their ease.”

Many have offered their praises to the staff at the department, adding how caring and kind they have been with patients.

Speaking when the unit opened, Chief Executive Peter Reading said: “I am delighted that our new MRI suite is now complete and we’re able to offer a vastly improved service to our communities.

“Our previous scanner was 15 years old and we often had to bring in a mobile scanner to the site to help to meet demand.

“With these two new Phillips scanners permanently on-site we will be able to see you more quickly, reduce waiting times and get you the diagnosis you need to be able to start treatment.

“We know how important it is for you to be treated close to home wherever possible, so I’m particularly pleased that this facility will allow us to perform a far wider range of specialist scans, allowing us to treat people locally who would previously have had to travel in order to access these services.”
