Local shopper issues stark warning after petrol station overcharges
A local shopper was left in shock after she was charged £60 for a £6 car wash and a bottle of juice.
After visiting JET petrol station on Waltham Road, a resident was left in shock after checking her online banking app an hour later.
According to the woman, she visited the petrol station as her car needed a clean, a wash that should have cost just £6.
Whilst inside the station, she picked up a single bottle of juice before paying by card.
Speaking to Gi Grimsby News, the woman confirmed the total of her trip should have cost £7.49. However, she was left in disbelief after the cashier had charged £62.40 to her card.
“It’s practically theft by deception,” she told.
“There is no way a simple mistake from £7.49 to £62.40 can be made on a cash register, I will be informing trading standards.”
“Times are hard for people and if we can’t trust retailers to be trustworthy, the world really has gone to pot!”
Posting her experience to social media, she warned potential customers to be aware of the incident which subsequently triggered a thankful response, one adding: “Thank you for posting this.”
Meanwhile another resident told her to call the police, adding that it “needs reporting. It’s theft.”
Obviously not happy with the price, the woman went back to the petrol station and demanded a refund on the money not spent, which she eventually received.
Concerned with the mistake, she warned elderly residents who frequently use the petrol station:
“I know a lot of the elderly residents use that petrol station for their convenience, I would hate for them to go through the worry of losing their money and some don’t even have online banking. It’s cruel and thankfully I checked My banking app and noticed it.”
