Ollie Battersby signs new GTFC contract!
GTFC have confirmed 20-year-old Ollie Battersby has signed a new one-year contract with the club.
Battersby was a regular feature in Hurst’s matchday squad during the latter part of the season last year. He was finally awarded his GTFC league debut during the final game of the regular season against Eastleigh.
The 20-year-old first joined the Mariners at Under 9’s level and went onto spend a year with Sheffield United’s academy. The Grimbarian made the move back to Blundell Park, joining the club as a scholar in 2020.
The academy graduated said he was “delighted” to pen a new deal with the Mariners, adding:
“Last season was an unbelievable experience for me. Obviously, I’ve experienced promotion as a fan before, but the feeling as a player was incredible. There was an amazing atmosphere around the Club after the final. It feels as though the fans and the Club are really connected at the minute. Personally, I hope I can kick on next season and I’m excited to see where that takes me.”
Town boss, Paul Hurst, said he is also “pleased” that the young goalkeeper has decided to play his football with the club for another year, stating:
He’s a young player that came through our academy and made good progress last season with a good loan spell at Belper. Prior to that he’d had a couple that hadn’t quite worked out, for whatever reason, so it was good he managed to get some games under his belt last season.
“We saw the benefit of that ourselves and his efforts were rewarded when he made his full League debut in the last game of the season. Although he conceded a few goals, he conducted himself very well. Ollie is at an important stage in his career for his own personal development and I know he’s pleased to sign on again for his hometown club.”
