Vandalism at Grimsby building poses danger for pedestrians
There have been reports of vandalism at a Grimsby building as windows were seen smashed on an office block building in the town centre.
Devonshire House has seen windows smashed along the higher floors of the premises, with glass shattering below which could have seen danger for pedestrians.
It is understood North East Lincolnshire Council staff cleared debris from Grimsby’s Bull Ring.
The glass shattered over the walkway outside Wilkos towards St James’ Square, it is unconfirmed whether the damage was sustained from the inside or the outside.
Humberside Police officers are investigating the criminal damage caused to the premises early on Sunday. Windows on the lower floors were smashed as well as some on the upper levels, there was also a first aid kit and part of a chair left in the debris.
The office block was sold at auction for £500,000 seven years ago but has been vacant ever since.
A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of people causing damage to a disused building on Victoria Street, Grimsby.
“Derelict and disused buildings often mask hidden dangers. These dangers are not obvious until it’s too late and serious injury could be caused if such a site is entered.
“Police, along with our partners, would urge anyone against playing in or around, or entering derelict building or building sites. Thankfully, no one was hurt as a result of this incident.
“We would ask parents to talk to their children about the risks of being in a derelict building and prevent what might seem like harmless fun ending in serious injury or worse. If you have any information relating to this incident, you can call our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 296 of 19 June.”
