Scunthorpe teenager named and charged after rooftop standoff
A Scunthorpe teenager has been named and charged after a rooftop standoff on Tuesday 7 June.
Earlier in the week, 19-year-old Cole Smith took to a nearby roof on Bristol Road. He was eventually arrested and taken into custody.
The incident caused frustrating disruptions for residents as Humberside Police enforced a cordon around the area whilst they attempted to bring the man down, and to ensure the safety of people passing by.
In a statement released today, Humberside Police confirmed the perpetrator has been charged with five offences following his initial arrest.
“Cole Smith (19) of Lichfield Avenue, Scunthorpe, was charged with four counts of criminal damage and one count of affray”, the force said.
“Smith is due to appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court this morning”, they added.
“At around 3:15pm on Tuesday 7 June, a man reportedly took to the roof of a building before making threats and allegedly causing damage”
Scunthorpe locals again issued strong words following the announcement, the general censuses indicated tougher action was needed.
“He should be made to pay for time of emergency services that had to attend”, added one resident.
“Only four counts of criminal damage…. why not one count for each of the roofs/windows and houses plus cars that he damaged”, argued another.
