Locals host Jubilee celebration with charitable twist

Grimsby locals have hosted an amazing Jubilee themed celebration with a charitable twist!

Residents from Portland Avenue and Portland Manor, Grimsby, have joined together to throw a spectacular street party to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Unlike other parties, participants have decided to raise funds for the St Andrews Hospice.

Gill Watcham, the events coordinator, told Gi Grimsby the wonderful background story behind the decision to host the party whilst identifying the need for “community” and “friendship”

Gill explained how she began to interact with neighbours during the pandemic’s ‘clap for the NHS’.

Gill understood the need for a local community of friends, especially during recent years.

Subsequently, Gill and her neighbours began to brainstorm ideas ahead of the extended bank holiday weekend. The final event featured a mouth-watering BBQ, delicious cakes, party games, football, and even live music!

Furthermore, the family-friendly celebration has helped raise funds for St Andrews Hospice, a truly lovely gesture to mark a wonderful royal milestone.

“I’m so happy that this is event is community based”, said Gill.

“Who knows, we might even throw a Christmas event”, she added.

How have you been celebrating?
