By Bidding opens for housing developments on former Matthew Humberston school site
North East Lincolnshire Council met with local housing developers to share plans for the disposal of the former Matthew Humberstone School site near Cleethorpes.
The former school now functions as Bursar Primary Academy following a full refurbishment in 2018, but a large portion of the field is no longer needed.
Housing developers are now being offered the chance to bid for the site.
The parcel of land, next door to Bursar Primary Academy, already has outline planning permission secured for up to 58 houses.
Housing proposals for the site include a mix of properties including two and three bedroom properties, which will provide affordable, retirement and market housing.
An extra care facility is also being considered separately by North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group in terms of the type of facility needed.
Each property on the housing site is earmarked to have gardens and parking. Benefiting from tree lined streets, the planned design includes sustainable drainage and a dry pond, which will provide a wildlife area for residents.
A Homes England grant has enabled key utility and site preparation works to be undertaken, including a main access road into the site, making the site more attractive for potential developers.
Cllr Philip Jackson, leader of the Council, said: “We want to boost the local economy, and provide good quality housing to do this – both for our existing population and for people who want to move to the area. As part of this, we need to work together to help reduce fuel poverty and provide better health outcomes for local people.
“For the good of the environment, using brownfield sites has to be our preference, and we are committed to providing homes in town centres where we can.”
