Warning after scammers going door to door pretending to work for charity

Locals in Humberston have been warned of scammers going door to door pretending to work for the British Deaf Association.

Cleethorpes Policing Team shared an update to residents, urging them not to give out personal information and to report any suspicious activity.

In a statement, the British Deaf Association said: “The British Deaf Association (BDA) does not carry out any door-to-door collection in any location. We, therefore, share your concern and dismay that someone is fraudulently claiming to fundraise on our behalf.”

Personal information such as your name, surname, date of birth, contact information, and bank details should not be shared with those coming to your door.

Residents have shared when and where they have received visits, including Country Park, Westport Road, Bedford Road, and Toll Bar Avenue.

Sharing descriptions of those carrying out the scam a resident said: “There have been 2 groups operating.

“The first was the smartly dressed male (as per my original alert, with a tie). Information was that he was acting on behalf of ‘The British Deaf Society’ – which they confirmed that nobody does.

“The second is this male and female who are wearing a purple fleece top who apparently are canvassing on behalf of the ‘Children’s Deaf Society’ (I believe that someone mentioned that they have a reply and confirmation).

“The crime prevention remains, do not feel rushed into making a decision and be mindful of what information you are sharing with strangers.”
