Locals furious as iconic Lincoln Imp pub set to be demolished
Many Scunthorpe locals have been left furious as the iconic Lincoln Imp pub is set to be demolished under new plans.
The pub would be demolished to make way for a new two-story building consisting of 20 new dwellings.
Nearly 200 residents have shared their objections on the council’s planning portal, with another petition gaining over 1200 signatures to keep the beloved pub.
Located on Gloucester Avenue in Scunthorpe, the planning application was submitted by Shape Land & Property to create 20 one-bedroom flats.
Scunthorpe MP Holly Mumby-Croft has also issued a statement, sharing that many residents have contacted her with objections.
She said: “I’ve been contacted by a number of residents who are concerned about the planning application that has been submitted by developers to pull down The Imp. I’ve been to The Imp many times over the years and I know how important it is to Scunthorpe’s music scene and local mental health charities, I understand why people are concerned and I want to share some information that hopefully will be helpful.
“As an MP, I do not make planning decisions – rejecting or allowing applications are not part of an MP’s role.
“As it stands views must be submitted by the 20th May but under the circumstances, I have written to the council and asked them to extend this deadline to make sure everyone gets the chance to have their say.
I would be grateful if residents could send me a copy of their objection once it has been submitted so that I can make representations on your behalf too.”
North Lincolnshire Council leader Rob Waltham has also responded to residents’ complaints, stating: “As leader of the council I have no involvement in determining planning applications, however, I do have a personal opinion. I believe this is not the right site for such a development and I would happily support residents should they need any assistance in raising their concerns.”
Those who wish to make their objects known can do so through the council’s planning portal here.
