Ongoing issues with dangerous parking near schools forces police action

Ongoing issues with dangerous and illegal parking near schools have forced police action.

Humerside Police have started to conduct foot patrols around Berkley Primary and St Augustine Webster schools following reports of dangerous and illegal parking.

In a social media statement, the force stated that two members of the force had been deployed on the streets to ensure parents and children remained safe, due to “ongoing issues with dangerous and illegal parking”

Adding:

“Council enforcement officers are also aware of these issues”

The announcement follows the increased police presence along Lloyds Avenue following numerous reports of continuous speeding cars.

Humberside Police posted a “School Safety and Parking Advice” poster alongside the update, encouraging parents to walk their children to school.

Whilst a step in the right direction, some parents raised additional concerns regarding multiple Scunthorpe locations notorious for dangerous parking habits.

One parent said:

“Spencer ave is just downright dangerous at collection time! At least 50 cars are probably breaking the law and no-one seems to care”

“(Spencer Avenue) Is absolutely shocking! Every car is parked on the path. People park directly at junction ends. Someone will get killed”, added another.

Parents also listed West Common Lane and Cemetery Road that exhibits dangerous parking habits.

Another parent simply suggested that others parents should consider walking their children to school, especially those who live nearby.
