Scunthorpe and Grimsby A&E departments under ‘significant pressure’

Scunthorpe and Grimsby’s A&E departments are currently under ‘significant pressure’ as patients face long waiting times.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust have renewed calls for patients to only attend A&E departments if they are in urgent need of medical care.

They said that those who do not need urgent care should contact NHS 111 or book in to see their GP.

Patients are prioritised based on who is most in need so some could be facing very long wait times.

Visiting at A&E was recently updated so now one other person can travel to the department with the patient but people are still urged to come alone when possible.

NLaG said: “Our Emergency Departments at Scunthorpe and Grimsby have been under significant pressure today.

“We’re doing our best, but those who don’t require urgent emergency treatment will have a long wait to be seen as we prioritise the patients most in need.

“Please only attend if it is absolutely necessary and consider alternative options for minor ailments, such as visiting your GP or pharmacist.

“If you have an urgent medical problem and you’re not sure what to do, please visit 111.nhs.uk or call NHS 111 for advice. In many cases NHS 111 clinicians and call advisors can give patients the advice they need without using another service such as their GP or A&E.

“If you need non-urgent care, please use an alternative service where possible to help us focus on the seriously ill and injured patients who need us.”
