Spike in anti-social behaviour over Easter weekend

There were multiple reports of incidents throughout the Easter weekend and towards the end of last week, into early this week.

Humberside Police have confirmed that two teenagers have been arrested following an arson attack that destroyed a local playground On Saturday 16 April, locals were shocked to find plumes of black smoke emerging from Pilgrim Park in Immingham.

A spokesperson for the force said: “A 13 yr old boy & a 13 yr old girl have been arrested on suspicion of Arson following a report of an incident at Pilgrim Park, Immingham on 16 April.

Robson Augusta, who is standing as the Labour candidate for Scartho, came home to find that a brick had been thrown through the window of his car in an act of mindless vandalism.

He said: “The best way to combat this sort of behaviour especially if it involves young people is setting up more youth groups and youth zones and councils working in partnership with charities.

“We also need to build a better sense of community again and better community feeling with one’s neighbours will also help mitigate this behaviour.”

On Monday the 18th there were reports of a blaze at premises “Two 14-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, affray, and arson.”.

On Friday 15 April, a car and houses were damaged in a blaze down Weelsby Street in the early hours of the morning.

Humberside Police have now said: “We are investigating a case of arson after we were called to an incident on Friday 15 April at 4:00 am.

“It is reported that unknown person/s have approached a vehicle on Weelsby Street, Grimsby, and are thought to have started a fire.

Cleethorpes Paddling Pool, owned by Harrison’s Ices, has also sadly fallen victim to vandals ahead of reopening this summer.

In a recent Facebook post, a spokesperson for Harrisons Ices wrote: “We haven’t even opened yet & I’m having phone calls to tell me there are people broken in and pulling things out of the buildings.

“Any images would be great, CCTV is being installed next week.

“Anyone jumping over the fence and being caught on our CCTV will be published on our pages in the hope to deter them from doing it again.”

The pool is expected to reopen on the 23rd of April.

A woman was also taken to hospital in ‘serious condition’ following an assault on Milton Road, Grimsby, The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday the 16th of April.
