Two 13-year-olds arrested after arson attack destroys playground

Humberside Police have confirmed that two teenagers have been arrested following an arson attack that destroyed a local playground.

On Saturday 16 April, locals were shocked to find plumes of black smoke emerging from Pilgrim Park in Immingham.

Residents reported seeing a number of youths running away from the area at the time of the incident.

One frustrated local said: “This is absolutely disgusting. The same people who destroyed it are no doubt the ones who will complain that there is nothing to do in the local area. I hope they’re caught and held to account!”

Another added: “That’s church park out of action then. There’s already very little for young children to do in the area without malicious idiots destroying things.

“Even if the council agreed to invest in nearby parks some mindless idiots would just burn it down or wreck it.”

One woman reported seeing four young people throwing bricks at the windows of the nearby golf club just days earlier, suggesting that the same people could be involved in this latest attack.

In a recent updates, Humberside Police confirmed that two 13-year-olds have been arrested on suspicion of arson.

A spokesperson for the force said: “A 13 yr old boy & a 13 yr old girl have been arrested on suspicion of Arson following a report of an incident at Pilgrim Park, Immingham on 16 April.

“We would again appeal to anyone who may have information that would help with our enquiries to please call 101 & quote 16/46127/22”
