Locals react to A180 ongoing speed limit
Although roadworks have officially finished on the A180 on April 8th , the temporary 40mph speed limit will remain for some time yet.
On Friday (8 April) Highways England announced that the roadworks would end that night through overnight works.
Yet since then, the speed limit has remained in place and most of the laybys have been closed, seemingly with the barriers removed, causing even more frustration for motorists.
The works were initially set to end in March but storms in February caused delays pushing the finishing date to April.
“40mph speed limit with no work going on absolutely ridiculous,” one user wrote.
Along the roads, some new barriers are in place, but mostly the old barriers are still there.
“There’s quite a lot of rusty barrier they haven’t changed on the same section!-looks like half a job has been done” another added.
The 40 mph speed limit will allegedly remain in place until 21st April on the Westbound carriageway and 23rd April on the Eastbound.
Another highlighted an issue saying it “Needs resurfacing more than anything. The massive crack down the centre where the white lines are makes the road badly uneven”.
Temporary speed limits will remain in place until 21st April on the westbound carriageway and 23rd April on the eastbound.
One user voiced their support however saying “Thanks guys for doing a great job on replacing the safety barriers- It’s for our safety”.
Highways England said these are still required as an extra safety measure for drivers until all the work in the area has been completed, including the removal of the safety camera system.
There will be overnight closures of the westbound carriageway between Brocklesby Interchange and Pyewipe roundabout on the nights of 19 and 20 April, and then of the eastbound carriageway between the same two points on the nights of 21 and 22 April.
Once this work is completed the road will revert to its permanent speed limit.
