Children’s play park destroyed in arson attack
Locals have reacted with outrage and devastation after a children’s play park in Immingham was destroyed in a suspected arson attack.
Thick plumes of smoke were spotted coming from the climbing equipment at Pilgrim Park on Church Lane yesterday afternoon.
Residents have since reported seeing a number of youths running away from the area at the time of the incident.
One frustrated local said: “This is absolutely disgusting. The same people who destroyed it are no doubt the ones who will complain that there is nothing to do in the local area. I hope they’re caught and held to account!”
Another added: “That’s church park out of action then. There’s already very little for young children to do in the area without malicious idiots destroying things.
“Even if the council agreed to invest in nearby parks some mindless idiots would just burn it down or wreck it.”
One woman reported seeing four young people throwing bricks at the windows of the nearby golf club just days earlier, suggesting that the same people could be involved in this latest attack.
Humberside Police have been contacted for a statement.
