A man has been found guilty of murdering Sir David Amess MP after he was stabbed to death last year.

The Southend West MP was stabbed more than 20 times during a constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex on 15 October 2021.

Ali Harbi Ali, 26, of Kentish Town, north London, was also found guilty of preparing acts of terrorism by jurors at the Old Bailey.

Ali had denied the charges and previously claimed he targeted the MP over his vote for airstrikes on Syria.

According to reports, the jury only took 18 minutes to decide Ali’s fate.

They heard how Ali pretnded to be a NHS worker to get into an event, giving him prime opportunity to kill the MP.

Jurors also heard how the convicted killer had planned out other attacks on MPs, including Minister Michael Gove who Ali belived was a threat to muslims.
