US Air Force jets spotted flying over RAF Donna Nook
United States Air Force and RAF aircraft were spotted flying near Donna Nook and over the North Sea yesterday, Tuesday 15 February.
The area is frequently used by the RAF and utilised for routine training.
Earlier this week, RAF Photographer tweeted: “En route the U.S. Bombers integrated with UK Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs) at both Cape Wrath in Scotland & Donna Nook in the North East of England, conducting bilateral Close Air Support training.
“The mission focused on enhancing readiness & interoperability”
There were also a number of reports of a sonic boom being heard at around 11am by residents across the UK, including the north of England.
The incident is not thought to be linked to the aircrafts spotted in Lincolnshire.
According to the RAF, the noise was caused by a Typhoon aircraft undergoing flight testing.
A spokesperson said: “We can reassure people that the noise reported in the Southport area today was a supersonic boom.
The organisation apologised for any alarm caused to nearby residents, stating that they were operating within airspace “cleared for supersonic testing”.
