Humber Bridge issues warning ahead of storms Eunice and Dudley

The Humber Bridge Board has issued a warning ahead of high winds which are expected this week as storms Eunice and Dudley hit the area.

The bridge is now shut in both directions to high-sided vehicles and wind-vulnerable vehicles.

This means that a number of vehicles, including mopeds, caravans and HGVs, are currently prohibited from crossing.

Several yellow weather warnings have been put in place for the remainder of the week, with the Met Office warning of disruption to travel.

Much of northern Lincolnshire, including Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Scunthorpe, are expected to be affected between from 3pm on Wednesday until 6am on Thursday for Storm Dudley, and from midnight until 9pm on Friday for Storm Eunice.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible, as well as some roads and bridges may close

“Fallen trees and some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen

“Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

“There is a chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris, as well as large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties”

This news follows a recent incident where a supermarket delivery vehicle was blown onto its side after it attempted to cross the bridge during strong winds.

It is not yet clear when the restriction is set to end.

Updates to follow.
