Covid deaths continue to fall as PM aims to scrap all remainging measures

Current figures from the Office for National Statistics show that Covid related deaths are continuing to fall in the UK.

In the week ending February 4, 1,390 deaths were recorded for patients who tested positve for Covid within 28 days.

This shows a fall of 155 compared to the previous week.

Death cetificates don’t always mark Covid as the primary cause of death, it can be listed as a contributing factor.

Fewer than two in every three Covid-related deaths are estimated to be caused by the infection.

A total of 183,502 deaths have occurred in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Between 8 February 2022 and 14 February 2022, there have been 1,243 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test, government data shows. This shows a decrease of a quarter compared to the previous seven days.

Hospital admissions and newly-recorded Covid cases are also down.

This decrease in deaths follows Boris Johnson’s announcement in the commons last week that he wants to end all remaining Covid restrictions a month early.

This would mean people who test positive for the disease will no longer need to isolate.

The current date for the remaining restrictions to end is March 24.

Mr Johnson shared that he will bring plans to the house after the government recess calling for an end to all restrictions a whole month early so long as the data supports the decision.

Downing Street said that laws would instead be replaced with guidance, as people will be urged not to go  to work if they test positive but they will not be legally required to isolate.

Free lateral flow tests are also under review as Number 10 aims to outline the ‘living with Covid’ guidlines next week.
