Drunk driver from Doncaster caught travelling in car with only three wheels

On Saturday 20 November, South Yorkshire Police’s Operational Support team responded to calls of a car with only three wheels travelling along a Doncaster road.

A spokesperson for the force reported: “Whilst we were patrolling the Doncaster area on Saturday afternoon, we got a call from some concerned members of the public.

“They found it odd that the Ford Fusion in the picture was happily motoring along at the speed limit with only three good tyres.

“They had tried to attract the driver’s attention, but we suspect that she couldn’t hear them over the racket of the tyre disintegrating as she drove along followed by [the] sound of alloy wheel on tarmac once the tyre had given up, damaged the front nearside of her car and been thrown across Wheatley Hall Road.”

The car with three wheels eventually pulled over at a red light.

The police promptly realised that the driver had been unaware of the damage as they were heavily drunk.

After the damage was pointed out to her by members of the public, she carried on going, but her keys were taken off her at the next set of traffic lights.

Once officers arrived at the scene, the driver was still in the driver’s seat, demanding to be allowed to go home.

She was arrested soon after and her three-wheel car was parked somewhere safe.

Two samples of breath were given with the lowest reading at 128 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, four times over the legal limit.

The legal limit currently stands at 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres.

The spokesperson for the force added: “After many hours of sobering up in custody, the driver was charged with driving whilst over the prescribed limit and bailed to court.

“This probably came as something of a surprise to the lady in question, as she was firmly of the opinion that she would be ‘let off’ with it being her first offence.”
