Police reassure residents of “proactive work” in People’s Park amid spate of wheelie bin fires
Humberside Police are reassuring residents that “proactive work” is being carried out in People’s Park and Park Ward in Grimsby, amid a spate of arson attacks on wheelie bins taking place within the park in recent months.
Local residents have taken to community groups on social media to complain about the incidents, in which youths are stealing wheelie bins from houses in the area, wheeling them to People’s Park and setting them on fire.
However, police are insisting that there have been “regular foot and vehicle patrols” in the park, which they say is one of their “key patrol locations” in Park Ward.
Inspector Martin Hopper of Humberside Police has spoken about the work being done by officers in the area.
He said: “Proactive work continues to take place in People’s Park and the surrounding areas, in Grimsby, with this being one of our key patrol locations in the ward.
“Our officers have been doing a lot of work in the area to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
“We have regular foot and vehicle patrols by the local teams and we are actively working with partner agencies and schools within these areas.
“We have been made aware of concerns within the local community relating to wheelie bins being stolen from the local area and these being set alight.
“For us to respond to the issues that are concerning residents as best as possible, we need people to report these to us, or our partners where more appropriate.
“Where a crime or anti-social behaviour is taking place, call us on our non-emergency 101 number or 999 if an emergency; for fires, call the Fire Service and for issues such as noise, littering or fly-tipping, contact the local authority.”
